Weekly Notices - 7 June 2026
Dear Everyone,
This my first Sunday with you. Over the next few months I will try to get to know each of you, as I learn the different ways of each church. Please be patient with me as I try to remember your names. If I ask you your name more than twice, don't be offended!
I've spent the past week reading through vestry minutes and AGM papers - yes sometimes they are actually useful - to help me understand the journey you as a parish have been on. I get the impression it has been a bit of a rough road over the last year and the road ahead looks to be even more challenging. It is not often that a parish has to face the possibility of selling a church building and the land it is on.
In Acts 1:14 we read that after Jesus left them, the disciples "continued with one accord in prayer and supplication..." The phrase "with one accord" is the translation of an unusual Greek word "homo-thy-madon". It literally means "to rush along in unison." The picture is of an orchestra with many different instruments each having their own part but harmonising with the rest under the direction of the conductor.
The Holy Spirit is our great conductor. We all have our own hopes and fears for the future. As we learn to listen and follow Him, we will be able to pray "with one accord". We know the result. The power of the Holy Spirit is released and we will begin a journey that will be so much greater and more exciting than we could ever imagine.
Stay tuned.

A Prayer for the Future of our Parish: God of all hope, you have inspired your people in times past with visions of a good future and given them energy and resolve to achieve great things for your kingdom; endow us with wisdom at this time of change in our parish, unite us in love, give us your guidance, and help us to follow where you lead. In the name of Jesus Christ, the pioneer of our faith, Amen.
Strengthen Faith Through Confirmation: A public declaration of faith in God and our Lord Jesus Christ can be a significant step in our discipleship and a way of strengthening faith. Recently, a St Paul’s parishioner expressed a desire to be confirmed and the Bishop has agreed to come and lead this special service on Sunday 26 July. If anyone else in the parish would like to be confirmed please contact me/Mark Chamberlain on 0274327474 and we can form a discipleship group and prepare for confirmation together.
What is Happening at St Saviour’s
Young Adults Group - seeking new members: We have a small young adults group (ages 18-35) who would love to get to know new members. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining, please contact Sarah on 021 0267 6170.
Hope House: In other news, I have organised to have a guest speaker at St Saviour’s on Sunday June 14th, Carey Ewing from the Hope House project in Hornby. I am sure it will be most interesting and encouraging to hear about the work they are doing. I have let Gina and Jean know but will remind them again next vestry meeting that we do not need a guest clergy for that service. See Sarah for more information.
Today’s Sentence and Prayer
