Weekly Notices - 6 April 2025

"Dear brothers and sister in Jesus, E te whanau kariti

I confess to you that I come to you a little more battered and bruised than I thought when I left West Africa.

Last Sunday when Ross from the West Melton family prayed so wonderfully for the church & the world etc, I burst into tears like a boil bursting.  So please forgive me if I don't meet some of your (unintended) expectations to be a normal priest.

I identify strongly with Captain Hawkeye Pierce (Mash 4077)(except for his womanising!) Triaging everything into obvious priorities...

Jesus 1st, 2nd and 3rd and you lot 4th and don't you ever forget it :)  So visiting you all, to get to know you, especially your journey with Jesus, letting you get to know me and question me too :D

Hatching, Matching and Dispatching and pressing over the Sacraments are next on my "surgical" list. You need to know that I am fiercely passionate that we cannot keep on doing what we have done for centuries, because we will get what all the traditional churches across this land have got: loss instead of growth.  Because we have somehow failed to bring our neighbours to met Jesus, despite various programmes decade after decade, I believe we have some serious repenting to do.

Maybe the parallel is that if we don't vote we are part of the problems that follow if you see what I mean?

During Holy Week Monday to Friday I will be at St Columba's to Celebrate Holy Communion at noon in the Iona Room.

It's always the Holy Spirit who draws us to Jesus. Pray that you can be set free to come.   It was a hell of a week for Jesus: weeping over Jerusalem, angrily cleansing the temple, His confronting style reaching a high even as his death was sealed by untrustworthy friends and a "church" set on doing what they have always done.... "

I look forward to worshiping with you today and doing it well because we love him.

Patrick
